Projects, projects…

Sigh…there are so many projects I have to do this week…for photography, intro to film (I hate intro to film…we have to do a podcast, and I hate doing that cos my voice sounds so gay when I speak into a mike), computer graphics, and research for an essay for Com Issues. It was the same last semester too…when all the modules just threw projects at us at once.  I wonder why the lecturers do that. Don’t they know they’re overloading us? Maybe its to train us to handle stress when we join the workforce and not to leave work till the last minute. But still, there’s so much work to do in such a short time. I’m going to slap whomever said Poly was slack, haha.

Speaking of projects, I got this project for computer graphics where I have to create a movie poster. The requirements are pretty strict and the poster must look realistic, right down to the tiny font we see at the bottom of genuine movie posters. Not like what we had to do for last sem’s Art and Design. That one was a piece of cake compared to this. I only had to copy and paste different pictures last time, but looks like I’ll have to actualy use the photoshop skills and techniques this time.

Back to the subject of the movie poster I have to do, I have a story thought out for it already, and I know what I want the poster to look like in my mind and I think it’ll be pretty awesome :D Though while making the poster I’ll probably have some trouble and the final product will no doubt be slighty (hopefully) different from the one I had in mind. But I think I’ll feel pretty proud of myself if I manage to complete the project sucessfully, just like last sem. For some reason, the photoshop poster that I made was the only project that made me feel proud.

E-Learning Week

November 10, 2009 maxwastaken 1 comment

Well last thursday was BCE day (or e-learning day, however you want to call it). I feel that it was pretty obvious that it would be on thursday since nothing happened on wednesday. Anyways, I think the BCE exercise was quite a disaster, ha. I found it pretty hard and confusing when we were learning new stuff by watching videos.

First of all, if we have questions, won’t we be unable to ask our lecturers for guidance? E-learning does lack the human factor too, with minimal interaction between the lecturer and students. And also, without our lecturers to push us, some of us may not be willing to go online and do the work. Like me, for example, haha. I went to watch Michael Jackson’s This Is It and only did my work at night.

Speaking of This Is It, I do feel that it is a big money exploitation scheme to cash in on Michael Jackson’s death. Quite a number of people feel the same way as me too, I’m sure. But then again, some people would welcome the movie, seeing as how its a very last chance for them to catch the King of Pop doing what he does best: dancing, singing, and spreading his message of love to his fans all around the world. I’m sure they miss him.

I digress. Back to the topic of e-learning to wrap up. My thoughts are: I think NP can still improve the way it carries out its e-learning. Or does that fall to the individual lecturers? It felt kinda rushed to me and it should be more organised. Maybe they should try again soon. The day off was GREAT! The homework I had from the e-learning was not.

Wow the story I wrote for People Watch has to be one of the craziest and wacky stories I ever wrote. Had a lot of fun writing it =D.

Ah well, time for my first post. Since its October now, I guess I’ll just talk a bit on Halloween.

Halloween falls on October 31st, which happens to be next saturday. Halloween isn’t really celebrated in here in Singapore, so no trick or treating for us. Well, maybe Halloween is celebrated in some private parties here in Singapore, but we definitely won’t be seeing anybody wearing Halloween costumes parading around in the streets anytime soon, ha. I wonder why Halloween isn’t celebrated here? Seems like all the fun stuff happens overseas. Ack I have run out of stuff to talk about Halloween. Probably because I don’t have any personal experience about Halloween. So I guess I shall go off-topic a bit.

I have a friend who’s studying in AJC (I won’t mention any names). He received his promo results a few days ago, and it was ugly. At the start of the year, he appealed in to AJC on the condition that he would be expelled if he failed his promos. And yep, you guessed it, he only passed 2 subjects out of 6. Life is unfair. I think the requirement was passing 4 subjects. And he also told me that he was not the only one who got expelled. Another one of my friends, who’s also in AJC, got the axe as well. There were 30+ students who got expelled. I’m writing this off my memory, so some of it might be inaccurate, but you get the idea. One thing I don’t get: my friend was expelled because of his appeal earlier in the year and the condition that came with it, but why were the other students expelled? Bad conduct? And yeah my friend is pretty broken up about it now. UPDATE: But yeah now the principal is letting those who did badly retake exams in december so there’s a second chance.

Anyway, here’s my 2 cents’ worth: I think this is all pretty much nonsense. I know that you get retained if you fail your promos, but expulsion is maybe taking it a bit too far. Well, crap like this was one of the reasons why I decided not to go to JC. but hey, poly life isn’t proving to be as easy as everyone makes it sound.

I guess that’s it for this post. Surprising how long my post is. Ciao~
